Laparoscopic total colectomy with permanent ileostomy(bag)

This is a procedure performed for diseases of the entire colon and amounts to removing the whole colon.

This is mainly done for colitis, ischaemic bowel and for high risk cancer.

The patient can end up with a permanent bag(stoma) or in most young patients there is good outcome by forming a pouch of the small bowel and joining it to the back passage.
